The Academy of Pediatrics is recommending the flu vaccine in healthy children aged 6 months to 18 years. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices also recommends the siblings of these children receive the flu shot. As in previous years, it is highly recommended that anyone with chronic health problems or their household contacts get the flu shot.
Additionally, any child can receive the flu shot at the parent’s discretion. At a minimum, the physicians at SouthPark Pediatrics encourage parents to receive the flu shot to prevent bringing the flu home to their children. We also encourage parents to consider the impact of the flu in its usual week long course on academic performance and missed school and work.
